Mount Fitz Roy photographed from Camp Poincenot. We arrived at the camp in the early afternoon. The mountain was shrouded in clouds for a while... then this happened. It was pretty remarkable.

12/30/11: major re-edit. I was never particularly happy with the original B&W edit, it was a bit too aggressive and dropped too much of the image in the black. This new version is, IMO at least, a significant improvement. Not that it can be seen in the reduced version, you will have to take my word that the full-sized one is MUCH better :-)

Thank you :)

Yes, I have many keepers to show over the coming weeks, this is probably one of my favorites. Some of the others will get more oohs and aahs but pretty much everyone in the workshop has them. I *think* that this particular composition and rendering is one of a handful that are somewhat unique.

You can see view how *Ian-Plant saw the same scene here. I love the attention to detail and the confluence of events he describes, and how our respective images have totally different atmosphere and feel to them.

yeah, his approach is so different from your one, although they seem to be captured from the same viewpoint with a very comparable focal length. both are beauties in their special way
but your way of successfully reducing the scene to a very minimum makes me simply feel speechless... this is some of these things i still struggle to accomplish, keeping a capture very simple and clean to reveal the real beauty of a place.

hope to see more of these stunners from you, so i better :+devwatch: ;)

A fantastic moment, an almost surreal atmosphere. Great work you achieved, indeeed.

Thank you for the kind. It seemed that in Patagonia nature did all the work, all you had to do was sit back and wait for the light. And when the light did come you could almost point your camera at anything and it would turn out great.

Actually looks MUCH better in B&W than color IMO. This was an early afternoon shot so it is a rather boring blue sky and white snow-covered peaks on a white cloud background. When converting to B&W I did a bit more tweaking that usual to enhance midtone contrast and bring the peaks out of the fog. Nevertheless it is a faithful representation of what I saw.
