I lived in OR for 15 years and shot Cape Kiwanda AT LEAST a dozen times a year, including twice in my last two days before I moved. Never once did I get great light. At some point I even wrote myself a script to capture the sunrise and sunset output of a local webcam looking at the haystack rock in the background so I can study the weather patterns. That did not help. This is probably the closest I came to what I had in mind, and that was back in 2011. Alas, I will probably never get the image from this location that I had in mind. This is just a small sampling of the hundreds of images I have in my archive from this sweet, sweet spot.
A tip for those that want to increase their chances - best bets for non-foggy sunset are the last week of August and the first week of December. Unfortunately I never took time off to spend a week in a row there, and always tried to hit the "right" weekend, which probably explains all the misses.
