The velvety texture is very real, it comes from a fine grain in the soil. Unfortunately there are morons who walk on these hills, in this particular case there was a bit of a clone tool work needed on one of the "toes" to undo human stupidity. Thank you for looking at this and other images in my gallery and the comments!

Thank you for the comment. I always struggle with composition at the places that everyone has shot. I am sure that this particular angle is not terribly unique, but at least it is not the most obvious.
