First day out with a whole bunch of new toys. Lots of fun. The D800 is insanely good, particularly in comparison to the D90 I had been shooting with, especially when coupled with top-shelf lenses. You can pull up shadows multiple stops with near impunity, and see individual strands of moss and pine needles even at 50%! Not that this matters at the sizes posted here

That's awesome, man. Love the greens. I'm also envious that you've received your D800. I placed an order for an "e" model, and I've still not received it. Probably won't for months, either.
Greens is what we have plenty of around here in OR this time of year. In fact, it is difficult when shooting in the forest to find something of contrast. In the full size image the brown of the bark stands out quite well and you can see each distinct pine needle, I kid you not. As for the D800e, I also had an order for that but the more I looked at the various online comparisons the more I decided that I will never print large enough or with sufficient discipline for the tiny benefit to matter. My local shop was gracious enough to let me switch from the E to the regular model without loosing my place in line, and I don't regret the decision. The ability to pull up shadows without much of a concern about noise is amazing. Good luck with the D800e, it may indeed be months before you get it. If you have the funds spring also get a 24mm PC-E. After one day of use I am hooked for life.
